The Numerical and mathematical Modelling Group (Nm²) is a research group of the Department of Earth Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London.
The Department of Earth Sciences (formerly the Department of Geology) was created in 1985 by the amalgamation of Geology Departments from King’s College London, Chelsea College London and Bedford College London. It rapidly became one of the top Earth Sciences Departments in the country with particular strengths in Basin Dynamics and in Geochemical Analysis.
This reputation is maintained today. In the 2014 REF exercise (UoA 7), we had 94% of our work scored at 3* and 4* levels making us the number 2 department (jointly with the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge) in the country on this metric.
In teaching we are particularly well known for our MSc in Petroleum Geoscience which has a strong International reputation built up over its 30 year history.
